Marla’s long lost cousin!
Posted in Daily Life by Howard | Tags: dog, lost, puppies, strayToday started off a little weird, but still perfect. When I was coming home from work I noticed a dog kind of wondering around someone’s yard, but didn’t really think anything of it. Maybe it was theirs? I pull into the garage, and go inside to wake up my girls like normal. And yes, Marla was excited, again, because Saturdays is for “trash-crew”. (I let her run in the front yard while I roll the can to the curb.)
Our neighbors diagonally from us always keep their garage door open. Not sure why, but the entire neighborhood is starting to do it. New trend for home-owners? So Marla and I walk outside and she bolts across the street to their house, and even enters into their garage. It didn’t occur to me that she saw that other dog, and was letting curiosity get the best of her, even if it meant getting into trouble.
I picked up Marla and walked her back inside the house, when I turned around to finish the trash duty … there was the dog. From the looks of it she just had puppies, and was very friendly, but timid. She cowered like Marla does when I first tried to pet her, but after that she acted as if she was my dog.
I called for Summer to hurry outside, and the dog pee’d when she saw her, but didn’t act aggressive or anything. I stayed outside to watch her as Summer went to grab some bowls of food/treats, and fresh water for her. She wasn’t that hungry, but went right for the water.
We figured maybe she left her puppies somewhere and was just trying to find food or something so I walked around the block with her and maybe she would lead me back to them. No dice. All she wanted to do was play, and jump on me in excitement. She went up to every person that was outside at the time, which seemed strange for a stray animal.
She’s not outside now, but sporadically throughout the day she will come and sleep in the shade on our porch, which is fine with me … no one else seems to want to help her. We spotted some of the other neighbors shewing her away. Summer and I will continue to feed and water her, and hopefully she finds her way home or back to her puppies.
